Pearlie Spruill Davis

Mrs. Pearlie Spruill Davis, age 73, passed away peacefully, Monday, January 16, 2012. Born in Rocky Mount, NC on November 1, 1938, Pearlie was the beloved daughter of the late John Wells and Leatta Spruill. She attended area schools and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in 1957. Following graduation she moved to Philadelphia, PA where she met and married her husband, the late Irvin Otto Davis. Pearlie had recently retired from the Nash-Rocky Mount School System after 34 years of employment as an Instructional Assistant. She was a caring and compassionate person-a source of advice and a confidant for many. She encouraged everyone she knew to be their best, which is why she especially loved working with children. She had a wide range of interests and hobbies, which included music of all kinds, singing, gardening, cooking, and reading among others. Foremost in her life, Pearlie was a baptized and dedicated Witness of Jehovah God. Throughout her battle with cancer, she remained steadfast in her resolve to maintain Jehovah's righteous standards. She was preceded in death by: one sister, Ethel Spruill; two brothers: Franklin Spruill and J.T. Spruill; two nephews: James Tyrone Spruill and Joel Timothy Spruill; and great niece, Angelique Spruill. Pearlie was a loving mother and grandmother. She leaves to cherish her memory; two sons: Jonathan Troy Davis of Chapel Hill, NC and Todd Barrington Davis (Jeanna) of Rocky Mount, NC; one daughter: Dawn Victoria Davis of Rocky Mount, NC; five grand daughters: Allison Danielle Whitaker, Jennifer Lynn Davis, Vivian Angeliqueka Davis, and Rebecca Louise Davis of Berlin, Germany; two grand sons: Todd Barrington Davis II of Los Angeles, CA and Terell Irvin Davis of Rocky Mount, NC; one step-grand daughter: Kandace Barnett of Las Vegas, NV. She is survived by one brother: Nathaniel Spruill, Jr. of New Bern, NC; three sisters: Erma Arrington of Rocky Mount, NC, Jessie Bell (John) of Fayetteville, NC, and Eleanor Epps of Concord, NC; three nephews: Kenneth Spruill (Mildred) of Raleigh, NC, Jeffrey Arrington of Rocky Mount, NC, and Ronald Bell (Suk) of Fayetteville, NC; six nieces: Lisa Graham (Zeb) of Stone Mountain, GA, Sharon Jameson (Leon) of Charlotte, NC, Leatta G. Spruill of Rocky Mount, NC, Sonya Bell of Fayetteville, NC, and Doshia Wright (Dammion) of Dunn, NC; and a host of great-nephews, great-nieces, and other extended relatives. She will also be remembered by her dear spiritual brothers and sisters, fellow worshippers of Jehovah God, whom she met locally and during her travels in the States and abroad. In addition, Pearlie will be missed especially by many lifelong friends who were her former classmates, neighbors, and colleagues.
